Introducing the World of Fire & Flight : Nyla

Nyla is a young woman of seventeen with keen instincts and a good heart. The second youngest in her family, Nyla (pronounced Nie-luh) has strong roots that extend through Tenebris’ history, as well as new roots to her mother’s homeland. Grounded in family values and fond memories, Nyla has an unmatched grit and determination that she only has to nurture when a family tragedy leaves her searching for answers. Now a nomad, Nyla’s eyes have since turned to the color of purple lilacs and her hair the color of silver moonlight. Confused, anxious, and afraid, Nyla crisscrosses the kingdom of Tenebris in search of answers that will hopefully bring her a sense of “home”, of peace, of safety.

Ever the hopeful, Nyla has remained curious by nature. Fiercely compassionate, Nyla will do anything for those she loves. A testament to her will is the lengths she goes to in order to preserve her most cherished possession: a family portrait of herself, her parents, her oldest brother, her older twin brother, and her younger sister. Once the life of the party — no, seriously, Nyla was the last one dancing at the Harvum Feast four years in a row during a traditional jig-type dance! — Nyla has grown to be a timid introvert who clings to myths and legends as a means of comfort. The mischievous and lively spark inside of Nyla has gone dormant… or has it?

Through the course of recent events, Nyla takes giant steps back to her roots, toward trusting her intrinsic instincts, and manages to overcome her fears as she was always meant to do. Emptiness and resignation become determination as grief becomes fond, if bittersweet, memories as Nyla’s personal journey turns into something greater: the destiny of Tenebris as thrust upon her by Fate through events Nyla could have never predicted would involve her.
