Introducing the World of Fire & Flight: Xander

Xander is a young man of nineteen, with an innate instinct to protect those he cares about and a determined loyalty that guides him. As the oldest grandchild to Alexander Huntington, Xander has always felt as though the weight of the world is on his shoulders as the potential heir to the family’s international business. Always wanting to do right by other people’s expectations and trying to meet the standards he feels have been set for him, Xander is a quiet extrovert, adept at navigating the complex social structure of upper-class Tenebrese society — and by virtue most other social situations he might find himself in. However, this trait hasn’t helped him with his sense of self, so true interpersonal connections can be difficult for Xander to make.

Skeptical of things he can’t reasonably explain, Xander tries to justify the world around him based on his schooling, and the things he’s learned through his experiences. Guarded, intuitive, and coming into his individuality, Xander has a long journey ahead of him to figure out who he is as Xander, and not Alexander Huntington, III. Unable to change past events, Xander looks uncertainly toward his future, a thing he can’t quite envision for himself.

Wandering “in darkness” as he puts it, Xander must learn to trust himself and the young man he is capable of becoming in order to help and protect those around him, even if it means swallowing his pride and facing his fears. Humbled by the years that have gone by since his estrangement after personal tragedies leave him at odds with his grandfather, Xander’s pride becomes self-reliance and assurance he never thought he was capable of.

Read as Xander’s journey helps him grow into who he was always meant to be in my upcoming novel, Fire & Flight!
